Fly Fishing, Wildlife, & Scenic Photos of Washington and Beyond
|
My photography started when I received an Olympus point and shoot camera as a college graduation gift from my parents in 1988. They new how much I enjoyed the outdoors, especially fly fishing, and thought a camera would keep better memories of my travels. Little did they know that eventually the little point and shoot film camera would grow into bigger and better camera gear and thousands of images! I think I was one of the last ones to hold out from the digital technology. Up until June of 2007, I photographed with Fujichrome Velvia from my Nikon N90, before converting to a Nikon D200. WOW! I can't help but wonder why I waited so long to go digital (other than the cost of course). Having the ability to see and edit photos right on the spot sure has its advantages along with great photo computer software to touch things up when they need it. Outdoor photography has become one my greatest passions in recording the beautiful creations the good Lord has surrounded us with. I am very blessed to live an area surrounded by picturesque scenes that are abundant with breathtaking landscapes, wildlife and exciting opportunities in outdoor recreation. There have also been times for me to travel outside of Washington and the U.S. to experience other amazing places. For the most part, I am a self-taught photographer but fortunate enough to have received coaching from other well experienced photographers including pro photographer, Don Gale (Photography by Don) from El Monte, CA. There are also many great web sites on outdoor photography from talented photographers who share their skills. The best lesson of course is getting out there taking lots of pictures by trial and error until you consistently shoot images to your satisfaction! My latest adventures in photography have led me to capture wildlife images, which, in my opinion are the hardest subjects in photography. Either you get real lucky or have a lot of patience to wait for the best moment. Fortunately, my many years as a hunter are paying off for the patience part, as I calmly have to wait it out most of the time. Whether it’s waiting for dragonfly to sit still on a perch or sneaking up to a big mule deer buck, minutes can seem like hours! Whether or not the photo op comes you still receive the benefit of being out there amongst the wild things.
My photo gallery is currently under construction but I making every effort to add more images as soon as possible. Please come back to see the new ones. To view the images below, simply click on the photo to take you to the featured gallery of that subject. Have a great visit! -----Joe
